Cement, acrylic, or a DIY patch mix – what’s actually different between them?

Standard cement parging is durable and affordable but rigid, acrylic parging is flexible and costs more, and general-purpose bag mixes are not built for exterior freeze-thaw exposure. Cement parging, usually polymer-modified and fibre-reinforced, is the usual choice for a sound poured or block foundation, because it bonds well and holds up to Ottawa winters when the prep is right. Acrylic parging moves with the wall, so it suits foundations that keep cracking in the same places or walls that stay damp, and it comes in colours. Its trade-off is cost.
